Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Audio-Visual Specialist to join our team at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our digital and film projection systems, as well as providing technical support for various events and exhibitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Download and ingest digital films for projection
  • Provide advanced level of support for screening 35mm films and caring for archival copies
  • Test screen films before public screenings
  • Oversee condition reports for incoming and outgoing films with Conservation department
  • Schedule and work with outside vendors to support and repair equipment
  • Cooperate with Film Department to ensure timely arrival and departure of films
  • Provide instruction and training for other AV techs and museum employees
  • Maintain training and procedural documentation for theaters
  • Provide technical support for various event types, including tech checks with presenters and performers
  • Document museum events, education programs, and training sessions for archival purposes
Requirements
  • Expertise in projecting digital and 16/35mm films
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis
  • Experience supporting and maintaining digital projectors, 35mm and 16mm motion picture projectors
  • Knowledge of live audio systems, videoconferencing, and other AV hardware
  • Ability to evaluate and implement digital media equipment, software, and services
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, customer service skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills, including Windows, Microsoft Office, and Apple software suite
  • Basic knowledge of computer networking concepts
  • Ability to prioritize, work independently, and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years of audio visual experience, film theater preferred
  • Previous exhibition installation experience
