Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Public Benefits Specialist 2 to join our team at the Washington State Department of Revenue. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to applicants and stakeholders, ensuring accurate and timely processing of applications, and collaborating with colleagues to achieve program goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct customer service to WFTC applicants, including supporting individuals and organizations that work with WFTC applicants.
  • Explain program requirements, application procedures, and verification needs.
  • Answer all questions regarding the WFTC program and refer customers to optional services and other agencies as required.
  • Take action to ensure that limited English proficient clients receive properly translated forms and translation services.
  • Support mail processing efforts in person in the Tumwater Headquarters office.
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • 6 months of experience as a Public Benefits Specialist 1 or equivalent.
  • An Associate degree and/or one year of experience in a call center or customer service environment, examining/processing loan applications, medical insurance or rehabilitation claims, unemployment insurance claims, or a job providing staff support in financial eligibility determination, or in a job analyzing, verifying, and evaluating financial or tax data and information, providing customer service in a high-volume setting.

Preference may be given to candidates who possess:

  • Ability to interpret public laws and policies and the ability to make independent decisions.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use telephony systems and associated technology.
  • Ability to apply technical regulations and procedures and analyze complex situations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office and be able to demonstrate flexibility in completing multiple assignments while meeting performance standards.
  • Bilingual ability.
