Job Overview

Position Summary

This role is accountable for organizing, coordinating, and overseeing key functions and activities associated with the transportation of senior clients across fixed routes, demand response, group, and veteran transport services. The manager is responsible for supervising drivers involved in both the HCBS and Veteran programs. Responsibilities are assigned by the Deputy Director of Senior Services, who provides guidance, deadlines, and priorities for routine tasks, as well as specific instructions for new, complex, or unusual assignments.

Key Responsibilities

The following are examples of the various tasks performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position:

  1. Oversees scheduling and management of all Senior Services vehicles, including HCBS, Veteran Transportation Services, and 5310 transportation, while maintaining driver documentation.
  2. Keeps daily and monthly records of clients transported, including mileage and fuel consumption.
  3. Monitors the collection of cost-share contributions from clients for various transportation services.
  4. Engages in annual planning alongside the Deputy Director, Operations Manager, and other leadership team members.
  5. Assists the Operations Manager in planning monthly group shopping and travel excursions, while maintaining transportation waiting lists and conducting quarterly inspections.
  6. Trains and cross-trains drivers and center aides on transportation procedures and county policies, while maintaining records for the Senior Services driver training program.
  7. Regularly inspects vehicles for cleanliness and proper maintenance, and participates in transportation monitoring activities.
  8. Conducts eligibility assessments for all transportation programs and maintains relevant client case records.
  9. Reports all incidents immediately to the Deputy Director and completes necessary accident documentation.
  10. Acts as a backup driver for fixed route, demand, group, and veteran transportation services as needed.
  11. Leads annual evaluations of transportation clients.
  12. Participates in outreach initiatives and community events to promote the transportation program and Senior Services.
  13. Assists drivers in developing fixed route pickup and drop-off schedules, and compiles monthly unit count reports for each transportation service.
  14. Maintains current training to uphold valid CPR/First Aid/AED and Defensive Driving certifications.

Additional Responsibilities: Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Senior Services, major county and medical facilities, and related agencies. Familiarity with the geography of county roads and street addresses. Understanding of general vehicle maintenance concerning daily operations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software, including Word, Excel, and Teams.

Ability to communicate effectively with and assist clients, particularly those who are physically and/or mentally challenged, without causing undue stress or discomfort. Capacity to compile information and produce written reports and documents in a clear, concise, and effective manner. Competence in safely operating a large multi-passenger vehicle on public roads. Willingness to work a split-shift or weekend schedule, if necessary. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and senior citizen clients. Capability to lift packages, groceries, and other materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Proficiency in using word processing, email, and spreadsheet software applications.

Working Conditions

Work is typically conducted in a vehicle or office environment. Hazardous conditions may arise while driving, performing operations, and working with a high-risk population.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  2. Two (2) years of experience in transporting individuals in a vehicle.
  3. Alternatively, a combination of education, training, and work experience that meets the requirements outlined above.
  4. Valid driver's license from the State of Georgia, with a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR) that meets driver requirements.
  5. Commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement (or must obtain within the first 90 days of employment).
  6. Pass a physical examination if required for licensing or by program administration.
  7. Eligibility to work with elderly individuals in the state of Georgia, verified through a federal digital fingerprint background check as mandated by OHS regulations.
  8. Valid CPR/First Aid/AED and Defensive Driving certifications (or must obtain within the first 90 days of employment).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. One (1) year of supervisory experience.
  2. One (1) to five (5) years of experience in senior services.
  3. Certification as an At-risk Adult Crime Tactics Specialist (CACTS).
  4. Experience with the Division of Aging Services Digital System (DDS).
  5. Experience in documenting client records, units delivered, and services provided.
