About the Position

Culver City Unified School District is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Instructional Support Assistant to join our team. As an Instructional Support Assistant, you will provide critical support to our teachers and students in the ESL and ASE classroom.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Support: Provide instructional support to students as determined by the supervising teacher.
  • Test Administration: Assist assigned supervisor/teacher/coordinator in administering and scoring placement tests to determine the level for incoming students.
  • Student Orientation: Assist assigned supervisor/teacher/coordinator in providing orientation to students.
  • Test Administration: Assist assigned supervisor/teacher/coordinator in administering a variety of tests including: paper-based, computer-based and oral tests.
  • Student Work Management: Assist assigned teacher/coordinator in managing student work assignments including: accepting completed assignments; correcting assignments, returning corrected assignments; and giving out new assignments.
  • Clerical Support: Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of program activities such as making copies, preparing packets, labeling, data input, duplicating and filing.
  • Computer Skills: Use various computer software programs that require entering and looking up information.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate a variety of classroom and office equipment such as copiers, paper cutters, laminators, and computers.
  • Student Safety: Assure the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures; maintain learning environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner; clean, set up, and set out instructional materials.
  • Supply Management: Monitor inventory levels of supplies; order and receive supplies as directed.
  • Meetings and Conferences: Attend assigned meetings, conferences and in-services.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school, plus complete two years of study at an institution of higher education (college level) or forty-eight (48) semester units, including a math and an English class or obtain an Associate's degree or higher.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Basic subjects taught in schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading; basic instructional methods and techniques; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct; operation of standard office and classroom equipment; oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Ability to: Work independently with minimal supervision; understand and follow oral and written directions, office procedures, and testing protocols consistently and carefully; multi-task in a busy and sometimes noisy environment; welcome and assist students from a wide range of educational and cultural backgrounds; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; maintain records and files.
