Job Summary

The Procurement Specialist is responsible for overseeing the procurement process, ensuring timely acquisition of materials and services at optimal costs. This role involves conducting research to identify potential vendors, negotiating contracts, and collaborating with internal departments to meet purchasing needs while maintaining quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers and evaluate their offerings to reduce costs and improve delivery times.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors, and suppliers to ensure smooth procurement processes.
  • Initiate Request for Quotes (RFQs) and Request for Proposals (RFPs) as necessary and obtain comparative price quotes.
  • Negotiate contracts and place purchase orders for all material requirements, securing the best prices and terms of purchase.
  • Address supplier issues such as late deliveries, shortages, rejected receipts, equipment deliveries, and contracting services through effective negotiation.
  • Collaborate with various departments to assess purchasing needs, identify budgeting costs, and resolve procurement problems.
  • Review materials requirements and prepare purchase orders through the ERP system, verifying terms and specifications.
  • Schedule deliveries for large or blanket purchase orders to ensure adequate inventory availability while minimizing cash outlay.
  • Maintain accurate records of all transactions, vendor quotes, negotiations, contracts, purchase orders, receipts, and resolutions.
  • Review vendor scorecards and identify alternative sources as necessary to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Authorize payments for resolved discrepancies in deliveries.
  • Provide backup support in the department as needed.
Requirements

To be successful as a Procurement Specialist, you will need:

  • Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of and background in Material Requirements Planning (MRP), supply chain management, production management, and project engineering.
  • Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and as a highly organized self-starter.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Salary Information

The estimated salary for this position is between $55,000 and $70,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
