Contract Specialist

Science Systems & Applications is seeking a highly skilled Contract Intern to provide support to the contracts team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in contract administration, negotiation, and management.
- Contract Administration
The successful candidate will assist in the drafting, reviewing, and administration of contract agreements, ensuring compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping
The Contract Intern will maintain accurate records of all contract agreements, amendments, and related documents, tracking key milestones, deadlines, and financial data associated with subcontracts.
- Support Contract Negotiations
The candidate will assist senior analysts or managers in negotiations, including pricing, terms, and conditions, preparing reports and summaries to aid in decision-making during negotiations.
- Risk Management
The Contract Intern will identify potential risks associated with contracts and propose mitigation strategies, ensuring compliance with all required regulations, such as safety, quality, and financial standards.
- Financial Analysis
The successful candidate will monitor and analyze costs, ensuring that budgets are adhered to, and assist in the preparation of financial reports related to contracts.
- Compliance and Auditing
The Contract Intern will ensure that all contracting activities comply with company policies, as well as federal, state, and local laws, participating in internal and external audits of contract performance and compliance.
- Stakeholder Communication
The candidate will liaise between contracts and various departments within the organization, such as procurement, legal, and finance, providing regular updates on subcontract status to management.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in business, contracts, accounting, finance, or related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret financial data and identify trends or discrepancies
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in financial records and reports
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with team members and external stakeholders
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, supporting colleagues and contributing to shared goals
- Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Basic proficiency in Excel, including the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets, use formulas, and perform data analysis
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in handling financial information

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
