About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Building Automation Systems Service Technician to join our team at Air Systems, Inc. This is a full-time union job that requires a strong background in HVAC systems, control systems, and electrical and mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform thorough reviews of project documentation, including plans and specifications, schedule, existing control drawings, RFIs, equipment submittals, control diagrams, sequence of operations, and other relevant information.
  • Interpret project documents, estimate, and other information to select the proper equipment to achieve the scope of work required in the most economical and functional manner.
  • Design controls or special systems projects, including network architecture, system diagram, wiring diagram, Bill of Material (BOM), and sequence of operation, to meet scope of work and budget as defined by contract documents and sales estimate.
  • Perform drafting work in MS Visio or AutoCAD as required to complete submittals, control drawings updates, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manual, and other engineered drawings accurately and professionally.
  • Provide comprehensive design summary lists, including TCP & TCP location lists, 120VAC power requirement & location lists, IP address requirement & location lists, lists of systems, hardware & software points lists, lists of trends and alarms, to the project team.
  • Maintain project control drawing construction document revision control from initiation to close-out phase of the project, including uploading them into PlanGrid.
  • Generate Request for Information (RFIs) to clarify design issues and recommend appropriate solutions as necessary. Identify and resolve potential project issues.
  • Provide and complete project documentation, including RFI, submittals, tracking logs, MOP, meeting minutes, and important document filing in job folder as necessary.
  • Coordinate internally and externally as required, such as consulting engineers, building owners, and other contractors, to ensure engineering is accurate and timely.
  • Provide support to the project team and other contractors in engineering areas, including the interpretation of project documents, estimate, equipment selection, submittal organization, and other tasks.
  • Attend meetings, including internal and meetings with customers and other trades, as required for assigned projects.
  • Complete time sheets, time and materials work orders, and other paperwork required for this position in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Provide accurate resource allocation requirements and feedback to the operation team for any hiring and/or team reduction needs.
  • Provide assigned employees with clear and concise expectations and key performance indicators.
  • Provide direct supervision technically and developmentally for assigned employees, including HR functions, technical training and mentoring, and day-to-day support to achieve better than estimated productivity on assigned projects.
  • Review assigned employees' work completion for scope, deadline, hours, quality, and overall customer satisfaction. Provide assigned employees with frequent and honest feedback through company one-on-one platform.
  • Train, mentor, and develop assigned employees' technical, problem-solving, interpersonal, organizational, communication, and customer relations skills.
  • Assist in assigned employees' project assignment, progress update, and issues (technical, conflict, and personnel) resolutions.
  • Assist the Sales team during estimation/bid phase of the project by providing design support.
  • Recommend technical solutions and suggest new products that provide better functionality and value to the project, sales, and operations.
  • Coordinate with other team leaders to develop and maintain standards, procedures, and libraries that can be shared and used among the group.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in controls and/or HVAC experience.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, may need to multitask.
  • Extensive knowledge of ALC Controls programming, graphics, database management, and troubleshooting.
  • Clean driving record required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible, able to pivot to get tasks complete or addressed.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Visio, MS Windows, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, Internet of Things, file structure, basic TCP/IP network structure.
  • Strong knowledge of DDC, HVAC systems/operations, and electric/electrical circuitry, including reading and interpreting construction blueprints, electrical and electronic diagrams, and sequence of operations.
  • The ability to troubleshoot basic electric and electronic circuitry, including reading and interpreting electrical and electronic diagrams.
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, and/or DDC systems design and development.
  • A working understanding of California Title 24, system integration for multiple building systems, and AC power circuitry, including breakers, multi-phase power, etc. (120VAC and greater).
  • Clear and concise ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, interpersonal, organization, and customer relations skills. Detail orientation is required.
  • Ability to understand empathetically the issues and perceptions others have and to creatively and successfully work through these issues to achieve a successful outcome and customer and employee satisfaction.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be able to lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material, etc.
  • Be able to spend significant time standing and walking, climb several flights of stairs or ladders, kneel, stoop, and/or crawl throughout a typical day on a construction site.
  • Knowledge of some programming or ALC WebCtrl system is preferred.
  • Creative use of skills and resources to get the job done and have a strong awareness of Air Systems culture and the culture of the industry in which we work.
