General Summary of Duties: The Retail Cash Handling Specialist is tasked with managing cash, debit, credit, and check transactions through a cash register or point-of-sale system in a retail setting. Responsibilities include balancing the cash register, processing payments, recording sales, handling returns, and scanning merchandise for sale.

Reports to: General Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Physical Demands:

  • Occasional extended periods of walking or standing.
  • Working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Standing for long durations during shifts.
  • Exhibiting a sense of urgency while maintaining a friendly and courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance.
Essential Functions:
  • Process sales transactions efficiently.
  • Calculate the total cost of products or services.
  • Accept various forms of payment.
  • Calculate and return change as necessary.
  • Maintain appropriate change levels in the cash drawer and request additional change when needed.
  • Address customer inquiries regarding products or services.
  • Reconcile cash drawers with sales receipts.
  • Report any equipment issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve store sales objectives.
  • Keep the checkout area clean and organized.
  • Assist in stocking and rotating merchandise.
  • Accurately scan and bag items.
  • Stay informed about merchandise promotions, advertisements, and product details.
All employees are expected to demonstrate the competencies relevant to their job position and remain updated on company policies through appropriate channels.
