MDS Coordinator Assistant

The MDS Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the medical records department by adhering to established protocols and guidelines. This position involves assisting in the organization, planning, and management of medical records to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Receive and execute work directives from supervisors while adhering to company policies.
- Assist in the coordination of the medical records department's operations.
- Maintain accurate minutes of departmental meetings and file documentation as required.
- Foster positive relationships with interdepartmental personnel to facilitate effective medical records management.
- Document and file incidents and accidents in accordance with established procedures.
- Retrieve and deliver resident records, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
- Organize and file various medical documents into resident charts, including assessments and reports.
- Support the MDS Coordinator in scheduling assessments in line with current guidelines.
- Ensure that incomplete records are promptly returned for correction.
- Develop and implement procedures for the accurate completion and filing of resident records.
- Maintain a log of authorized information released from medical records.
- Abstract necessary information for insurance and regulatory purposes while adhering to privacy rules.
- Index medical records as directed and maintain various registries.
- Assist in the transcription of reports for physicians as needed.
- Collect and organize charts, ensuring they are complete and in proper order.
- Handle inquiries regarding medical records and prepare necessary correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with policies regarding the release of medical records.
- File both active and inactive records in accordance with established protocols.
- Participate in committee functions by providing secretarial support and compiling records for review.
- Report any incidents of fraud or unsafe conditions to the appropriate authorities.
- Attend mandatory training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.
Applicants should possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Proficiency in typing (minimum of 45 words per minute) and familiarity with medical terminology is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Physical Requirements:The role requires the ability to move throughout the facility, manage physical documents, and lift up to 25 pounds. The work environment may involve exposure to various conditions, necessitating adherence to safety protocols.
