Job Title: Superintendent

Optimum Construction, Inc. is a leading construction management and general contracting company in New England, serving commercial, corporate, healthcare, housing, and institutional clients.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Superintendent to join our team in Portland, Maine. As a key member of our multi-state team, you will be responsible for overseeing construction projects in Maine and Southern New Hampshire.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of subcontractors, suppliers, and other project-related individuals to ensure safe and efficient project execution.
  • Determine work priorities and coordinate activities with the project manager to meet project deadlines.
  • Collaborate with administrators to supervise all work operations and ensure compliance with project documents, contracts, and specifications.
  • Exercise control over construction progress to complete projects within required time limits and ensure quality workmanship.
  • Maintain safety and job site conditions by enforcing daily clean-up provisions and ensuring compliance with OSHA guidelines and Optimum safety policies.
  • Estimate materials and manpower needs for specific jobs and manage time and material slips.
  • Lead inspections and commission of day-to-day construction work to enforce conformity to specifications and ensure quality control.
  • Supervise project individuals involved in construction work and maintain job site documentation.
  • Act as an adviser and facilitator on job-related problems and means and methods for onsite work.
Requirements:
  • 3-8 years of related field experience as a Superintendent, including at least 5 years of experience managing people and/or commercial construction projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, make timely decisions, and rapidly respond to changes and problems.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, plans, and specifications to quickly and accurately interpret information for others.
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local regulations, such as building codes and OSHA requirements.
  • Valid driver's license.
