Job Summary

As a key member of the MKC-Services team, the Grain Merchandising Specialist will play a crucial role in assisting with all merchandising functions for Producer Ag. This will include coordinating logistics, originating, trading, hedging, reporting, and other related activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the logistical movement of grain in trucks and railcars.
  • Set freight rates for the movement of Producer Ag originated grain.
  • Work with the trading team to establish and strengthen relationships to add value for Producer Ag.
  • Continually investigate best practices for grain logistics operations.
  • Originate bushels from producer and commercial accounts.
  • Communicate goals and objectives to all involved internal stakeholders.
  • Create relationships with key end-user accounts.
  • Search for new markets for originated grain.
  • Involved in billing and settlement of railcars.
  • Manage grain position risk with hedging activities.
  • Work to meet or exceed budgeted financial return objectives.
  • Set bids for the producer grain that we originate.
  • Help plan and execute company merchandising goals.
  • Coordinate all daily merchandising functions.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, or one to two years related experience in the grain industry and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries and complaints from customers.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for internal and external publications.
  • Computer and data entry skills.
  • Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; fundamentals of plane and solid geometry; and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Qualify for and be able to retain a series 3 license.
  • Vision abilities required are close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions

The job involves work inside a climate-controlled office atmosphere and work outside with exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
