Job Summary:

Caterpillar is seeking a Quality Manager to lead a diverse team of Quality Auditors and Product Quality Technicians in Clayton, NC. The successful candidate will guide the team in building and maintaining a culture of quality, ensuring that quality standards are met and exceeded.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and direction for quality audits throughout production processes, incoming quality audits, CMM lab, and calibration processes.
  • Set budget requirements, implement cost-saving projects, forecast production needs, and ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Implement and support various corporate initiatives, such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, Internal Certification, and more.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance strategies, processes, guidelines, and control plans to ensure quality and reliability of manufactured products.
  • Lead the development and implementation of corrective action and preventive measures to achieve quality targets.
  • Investigate and address trends with internal and external non-conformance.
  • Lead, manage, and develop multiple teams, team leaders, quality specialists, and inspectors to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Develop and review reports to review with quality assurance, production, management, and engineering personnel to solve quality issues.

  • Quality Management: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques, and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
  • Collaborating: Knowledge of collaborative techniques, ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies, ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational, or process problems, ability to apply knowledge of problem-solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Quality Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools, and techniques for Quality Risk Management, ability to implement the quality assurance process of assessment, control, communication, and review of risks to the quality of products.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles, and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing, ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and techniques of root cause analysis (RCA), ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or applicable experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 3 years of direct leadership experience or 3 years of proven leadership through projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of people and collaborate across functional areas in a facility.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems.
  • Project management background.
  • Demonstrated focus on people, quality, velocity, and cost.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills along with an understanding of how to leverage LEAN principles toward continuous improvement.
