Job Title: Supervisory Attorney

Legal Aid Chicago is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Attorney to join our Housing Practice Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising attorneys and staff, providing guidance on case strategy, and participating in complex litigation and advocacy efforts.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise attorneys and staff in the Housing Practice Group, providing guidance on case strategy and editing written work
  • Participate in complex litigation and advocacy efforts to address systemic issues
  • Engage in community outreach and represent Legal Aid Chicago on relevant community task forces and committees
  • Work collaboratively with Legal Aid Chicago staff, students, and volunteers to provide comprehensive legal services
  • Maintain case files and accurate time records, and ensure supervised staff do the same
  • Participate in other activities related to poverty law, including publication, legislative and administrative advocacy, media relations, and fundraising
Requirements:
  • J.D. degree and licensure to practice law in the state of Illinois or ability to waive into the Illinois bar
  • At least six years of demonstrated experience, including experience supervising legal work and litigating housing law cases
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with ability to work in an interdisciplinary manner with all Legal Aid Chicago staff
  • Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced practice and training and mentoring less experienced attorneys and advocacy staff
