Job Title: Independent Living Skills Trainer

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Independent Living Skills Trainer to join our team at Hope Services. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to live independently and participate fully in their communities.

Job Summary

The Independent Living Skills Trainer will provide individualized support to clients in their homes and communities, helping them to develop the skills and confidence needed to live independently. This may include providing training and guidance on daily living skills, such as personal care, meal preparation, and household management, as well as assisting clients with accessing community resources and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one assessment, training, and follow-up in clients' homes and communities, as identified in their Individual Service Plan (ISP).
  • Assist clients in developing daily living skills, such as personal care, meal preparation, and household management.
  • Help clients access community resources and services, such as transportation, employment, and education.
  • Monitor clients' progress and provide feedback and support as needed.
  • Collaborate with clients, families, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized service plans.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and confidentiality standards.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, plus one year of related experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, families, and other support staff.
  • Ability to observe, evaluate, document, and communicate verbally and in writing, client performance and social behavior.
  • Knowledge and understanding of physical and mental disabilities, alternative communication systems, and assistive technology.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
