Position Summary:

The Waste Collection Operator is tasked with the operation of a collection vehicle, ensuring efficient and thorough waste removal services for our clientele. Additionally, this role involves maintaining compliance with safety standards and regulations while operating the vehicle.

Compensation:

$21 - $24 hourly

Key Responsibilities:

As a Waste Collection Operator, your primary duties will include:

  • Conducting comprehensive pre- and post-operation inspections of the vehicle to verify that all safety equipment, gauges, and controls are functioning correctly. Report any safety concerns using standard reporting procedures.
  • Safely navigate the collection truck along designated routes, ensuring timely service to each customer as outlined by the route sheet or as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Utilizing manual and/or automatic controls in line with safety protocols to lift and load refuse, operate compactors, and dispose of collected materials at designated facilities.
  • Engaging courteously with customers, dispatchers, and colleagues to guarantee that all service routes are completed efficiently and professionally.
  • Identifying and tagging waste containers that do not meet standards, following departmental procedures.
  • Monitoring waste for signs of unacceptable materials.
  • Cleaning up any accidental waste spills while adhering to safety standards and policies.
  • Regularly checking the vehicle's condition to ensure operational readiness and minimizing downtime; cleaning waste from the packer blade and truck body as necessary.
  • Completing required route/productivity documentation and reports as mandated.
  • Maintaining compliance with productivity standards to ensure timely and efficient service to all customers.
  • Adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Performing additional job-related tasks as assigned.
  • Exhibiting strong customer service skills to meet and exceed client expectations; acting in a professional and cooperative manner towards customers and team members.
  • Demonstrating effective time management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
  • Following through on tasks and adhering to the work schedule while addressing challenges as they arise.
  • Complying with company policies and safety standards, avoiding unnecessary risks.
  • Taking pride in your work and striving to achieve all performance goals.
Qualifications:
  • Possession of a Class B or higher Commercial Driver's License is required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience operating a commercial vehicle is preferred.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment DOT drug screening, physical examination, background check, and a clean driving record is mandatory.
