Job Overview:

In a supportive environment, the Cashier Clerk is responsible for executing a range of routine and semi-routine clerical tasks related to cash handling and customer service for patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide assistance to patients, members, and visitors; greet them in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of current health plan policies and coverage; stay updated on changes; verify financial statuses; check for overdue accounts; inform patients and direct them to the appropriate departments; explain annual co-payment limits, coinsurance, and deductibles to customers.
  • Adhere to cash handling and compliance policies; stay informed of updates; apply knowledge to cashiering functions; follow all protocols to ensure the safety and accountability of financial resources.
  • Process various charges for services, health plan dues, and medications; accept payments in cash, check, or credit card; verify accuracy of checks; ensure valid authorizations for credit card transactions; issue receipts accordingly.
  • Address and resolve customer service issues; escalate complex problems to a supervisor. Operate a computerized cashiering system to record transactions accurately. Process refunds for overpayments, ensuring all necessary documentation is collected.
  • Record adjustments in the cashiering system according to established guidelines; reconcile supporting documents with general ledgers; balance daily transactions against reports; resolve discrepancies and report to a supervisor as needed.
  • Prepare and manage bank deposits; coordinate with armored car services for pick-ups; maintain change funds; order necessary supplies for the cashiering area; resolve any discrepancies.
  • Compile data for special and routine reports as requested; utilize up-to-date charge schedules for accurate calculations.
  • Operate office and cash-related equipment; ensure all equipment is functioning properly; troubleshoot and report any issues.
  • Serve as a resource for cashiers in other departments to assist with problem resolution; clarify policies and procedures.
  • Receive and secure deposit bags from other departments; prepare deposit bags for armored car collection; analyze data for reporting purposes.
  • Prepare billing documents for customers or third-party payers; gather necessary information; submit discrepancies for follow-up; ensure all documents are accounted for.
  • Assist with patient appointment scheduling; determine needs for routine appointments; enter and update patient data in the system; verify insurance eligibility; communicate appointment changes to members.
Qualifications:
Experience
  • Minimum of six months of experience in a computerized cash collection environment.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience may be considered.
