Position Overview
Compensation: $25.00 / Hour
The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist plays a crucial role under the supervision of the Director of Social Services. This position is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and executing therapeutic activity programs tailored to meet the unique needs and interests of each patient.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate rehabilitation activity groups for patients as required.
- Conduct sessions as part of the Recreation Therapy Treatment Program, including assessments, documentation, treatment planning, and discharge planning.
- Ensure high-quality verbal and written documentation of patient engagement and progress in rehabilitation activities.
- Coordinate treatment and unit activities with the overall treatment schedule and other facility programs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff, interns, and volunteers to enhance patient care.
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment in rehabilitation group rooms and unit areas.
- Provide constructive feedback regarding departmental policies and procedures.
- Represent Recreation Therapy in facility committees and engage with patients' support systems and families.
- Document admissions and discharges daily.
- Complete screenings and treatment plan interventions promptly upon admission.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning meetings.
- Offer individual leisure counseling and assist with discharge planning as necessary.
- Record group participation in daily notes or alternative activities.
- Assist with data collection for performance improvement initiatives as needed.
- Ensure assigned areas are clean, organized, and safe.
- Supervise and mentor Recreation Therapy interns.
- Participate in holiday programming and decorations as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
A Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, art therapy, music therapy, or drama therapy is required.
Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in treating individuals with mental health conditions or experience in an inpatient hospital setting.
Specialized Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with patients, staff, and the public.
Demonstrated knowledge of psychiatric disorders and treatment methodologies.
Familiarity with relevant regulations and patient rights is advantageous.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Licensure or Certification
Certification as RTC or CTRS is mandatory.
