The Medical Lab Technician plays a crucial role in managing specimen accessioning and processing to ensure high-quality specimens for laboratory analysis. This position requires effective communication and collaboration with team members to enhance job performance and maintain strong working relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understand and execute all procedures for obtaining, preparing, and packaging specimens for transport while evaluating specimen acceptability based on established policies.
  • Provide patients with appropriate containers and instructions for sample return, ensuring correct collection techniques and total volume.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, promptly notifying supervisors of any shortages, and completing necessary documentation accurately.
  • Engage in ongoing educational opportunities by attending meetings and completing required training, ensuring compliance with Inova educational standards.
  • Accurately manage specimen accessioning and processing to guarantee quality specimens for laboratory testing, adhering to facility policies for special procedures.
  • Obtain and verify proper documentation to confirm patient identity and ensure accurate registration, billing, and test order procedures.
  • Provide exceptional patient service by utilizing AIDET principles and ensuring the accuracy of technical information provided to customers.
  • Prioritize collection requests effectively to minimize patient wait times while maintaining specimen integrity and accuracy.
  • May be assigned additional duties as necessary.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Phlebotomy training is required; certification from a Phlebotomy program or another Allied Health training program is preferred.
  • BLS certification within 90 days of employment.
