Job Description

Job Title: Law Enforcement Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to join our team at Northampton County. As a Law Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for providing courthouse and courtroom security, transporting prisoners, and serving court orders and writs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide courthouse and courtroom security, including screening individuals entering the building for weapons, drugs, explosives, or other prohibited items.
  • Transport prisoners from prison to court for trials, hearings, and sentencing, and escort sentenced defendants from courtroom to collection and other offices.
  • Serve court orders and writs, including apprehending and arresting individuals wanted for Commonwealth Court issued orders/warrants, probation violations, and other orders.
  • Provide security for Northampton County government buildings and respond to emergencies in the Courthouse, courtrooms, or other government buildings as required.
  • Direct security in courtrooms, call for prisoners, and search individuals entering the courtroom.
  • Observe court proceedings, particularly individuals' activities and demeanor, to anticipate and control problem situations.
  • Guard jurors and judges during the course of trial, and in the event of an emergency, summon appropriate agency and render emergency treatment within the limits of training.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a high school or general equivalency diploma.
  • Must be 21 years of age by date of hire.
  • Valid and current motor vehicle operator's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Act 2 (Deputy Sheriff's Academy) Certification or Act 120 Certification (Municipal Police Officer's Training Certificate).
  • Polygraph examination, background investigation, psychological evaluation, and medical examination, including a drug screen.
  • Maintain certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED.

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions, and may occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration.
