Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Public Health Nurse Specialist to join our team at the Georgia Department of Public Health. As a key member of our public health team, you will play a vital role in promoting and protecting the health and safety of the residents of Cobb and Douglas counties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a wide range of public health nursing services, including family planning, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, immunizations, well women, child health, and breast test and more exams, using Georgia Department of Public Health Nurse Protocols for Registered Professional Nurses.
  • Focus on the prevention of illness, injury, or disability, and the promotion of health and maintenance of populations.
  • Care for populations with special needs during disasters/emergencies and biological and chemical protocols.
Essential Functions
  • Identify high-risk populations and tailor interventions based on the needs of the population and the resources available.
  • Provide treatments, administer medications/vaccines, and provide preventive and maintenance care to patient/families consistent with nurse protocols.
  • Screen and refer clients to other community service providers.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university and current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • CPR certification.
  • One year of PHN experience and completion of a PHN course within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • One year of professional nursing experience.
Work Conditions and Physical Demands

This position does not require excessive physical exertion, however, it is not a sedentary position. Requires occasional lifting of less than 50 pounds, walking to/from workstation and other clinical areas. It does require flexibility of working in various areas of the clinic when necessary and some outreach. Confidentiality and precise data entry is a must. Expected to be punctual and perform assigned work schedule.
