Patient Care Technician Responsibilities:
- Responds to patient care requests by answering call lights, assisting with personal hygiene, obtaining vital signs, and effectively communicating with the care team.
- Performs EKG duties in accordance with training and competency.
- Applies, checks, and documents restraints as instructed by the RN or physician.
- Conducts wound care, stoma care, and specimen collection.
- Manages equipment and tube care, including JPs, hemovacs, nasogastric tubes, and Foley removal.
- Assists with patient transfers, admissions, and discharges while adhering to safe patient handling principles.
- Orders and maintains office and patient care supplies.
- Acts as unit secretary, maintaining patient charts, responding to phone inquiries, managing daily assignments, and providing accurate patient information to the interdisciplinary team.
- Supports physicians and RNs as directed.
Required Qualifications:
Physical Requirements:
Employees must possess the ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs, as well as operate monitors and identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patients and care providers require effective verbal communication and the ability to hear and understand spoken information quickly, especially in emergencies. Manual dexterity is necessary for handling delicate equipment and frequent computer use for documentation and information access. Employees should be capable of lifting and utilizing a full range of movement to transfer patients and retrieve supplies. This role may involve standing for extended periods and navigating busy environments.
