Job Summary

Piedmont is seeking a highly skilled Pulmonary Critical Care Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our team in a night/weekend opportunity. As a key member of our critical care team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to the development of clinical excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Direct Clinical Services: Deliver high-quality patient care in accordance with institutional guidelines and evidence-based clinical practice standards, under the supervision of the patient's physician.
  • Conduct Patient Assessments: Obtain patient health histories, complete physical examinations, and document findings in accordance with hospital requirements.
  • Order and Interpret Diagnostic Tests: Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of procedures to patients, families, staff, and healthcare learners.
  • Perform Therapeutic and Diagnostic Procedures: Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based on patient clinical status and document procedures in accordance with hospital requirements.
  • Manage Critical Care Situations: Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, external cardiac massage, airway management, and administration of life-supporting drugs according to established protocols.
  • Insert and Manage Catheters: Insert and manage arterial catheters, dialysis catheters, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, chest tubes, thoracenteses, endotracheal tubes, and extraglottic devices.
  • Interface with Monitoring Equipment: Interface patients with monitoring and instrumentation equipment and direct and educate others in performing the same functions.
  • Develop and Implement Treatment Plans: Formulate and implement treatment plans for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or attending backup physician(s) and document in medical records and narrative summaries.
  • Assess and Intervene in Patient Care: Assess patients for changes in status and institute appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patients.
  • Participate in Clinical Research: Incorporate clinical research findings in the development and implementation of standards of care and support IRB-approved clinical research/trials.
  • Contribute to Quality Improvement: Participate in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Provide Education and Consultation: Serve as a clinical expert and education consultant to nursing, members of the healthcare team, and the larger community.
  • Assess and Meet Educational Needs: Identify educational needs of families and participate in teaching opportunities, assess educational needs, plan, provide, and evaluate educational programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary healthcare teams, and community.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a current Georgia license for Advanced Practice Nursing and a Master's degree in Nursing, or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistants program with a current license for the Georgia State Composite Board.

  • Licensure/Certification: Licensed Physician Assistant in the State of Georgia or Licensed for Advanced Practice Nursing (ACNP).
Additional Requirements
  • Competence in Airway Management: Competence in airway management, including endotracheal intubation, placement of extraglottic devices, and safe use of RSI medications.
  • Difficult Airway Course: Complete a Difficult Airway Course within one year of hire.
  • ACLS Certification: ACLS certification.
  • Interpretation of Diagnostic Tests: Interpret ABGs, CXRs, ultrasounds, and CT of chest.
  • Daily Rounds: Perform daily rounds.
  • Consults, Admissions, and Discharges: Participate in new consults, admissions, discharges, advanced care planning, discussing end-of-life care, and POLST.
  • Committee Participation: Attend and participate in at least one hospital committee.
  • Critical Care Center of Excellence: Attend and participate in the Critical Care Center of Excellence.
  • Journal Club and Grand Rounds: Attend and participate in journal club and grand rounds.
  • Formulate Differential Diagnosis: Ability to formulate a differential diagnosis, assessment, and plan for each patient.
  • Collaboration with Consultant Groups: Work closely with other consultant groups, RNs, and care coordinators.
  • CME Hours and State License: Maintain CME hours and state license/recertification.
  • Education of New Hires: Participate in the education of new hires.
  • Email and Communication: Check emails on a regular basis and respond promptly when needed.
  • Staff Meetings: Attend 4 in-person staff meetings per year.
  • Procedural Skills: Maintain procedural skills with an Additional Duties form on file with the state.
