Job Overview:

Focused Improvement Engineer

This pivotal position at Mars Incorporated is essential for achieving our objectives of sustainable growth. The individual in this role will collaborate with various departments and functions, including R&D, Quality & Food Safety, Supply & Fulfillment, Manufacturing, and Engineering, to assess, analyze, and drive reductions in overall manufacturing costs, total resource savings, and non-quality costs.

The ideal candidate will possess strong abilities to influence without direct authority across all organizational levels and exhibit negotiation skills to facilitate enduring change. A successful applicant will demonstrate robust problem-solving and coaching capabilities, along with a relentless drive for results.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education & Professional Background:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing or supply chain.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related technical field.
  • Proficient in interpreting complex, high-volume, and sometimes conflicting information to effectively resolve issues.
  • Fluent in English with excellent communication abilities.
  • Experience with TPM, WCM, and Lean Six Sigma methodologies is required; Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred or actively pursuing.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Power BI.
  • Project Management experience is advantageous.
Knowledge/Experience:
  • Comprehensive understanding of factory operations, particularly in problem-solving methodologies, data collection, and value stream mapping.
  • Trained in various problem-solving techniques and able to demonstrate these skills.
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC), RCLMS, and production reporting and their impact on non-quality costs and performance.
  • Insight into site waste reports, including quality and food safety costs, variances, and floor scrap.
  • A passion for and knowledge of best-in-class business processes and systems solutions.
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and proactively while managing multiple priorities and workloads.
  • Capability to tackle complex challenges across various functions.
  • Ability to inspire and influence a diverse, cross-functional team.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Enhance technical capabilities on production lines (machine and material interfaces).
  • Oversee the health of the Standardized Routine Control (SRC) system: lead the identification of centerline targets, document standards, and coach the line team and technicians through execution, problem-solving, and change management.
  • Support the development and execution of site improvement plans to achieve loss elimination goals.
  • Lead basic and complex problem-solving initiatives when issues arise, escalating complicated problems through appropriate channels.
  • Develop and implement strategies to address challenges related to production, materials, safety, or quality.
  • Modify equipment or processes to enhance resource efficiency or reduce costs.
  • Actively participate in the Focused Improvement organization, collaborating with people and asset teams to achieve site results using MSE/TPM processes.
  • Build the skills of operational teams, driving waste elimination through rigorous, data-driven problem-solving processes.
  • Address root causes of failures and downtime, linking outages, root causes, and actions in daily plans to eliminate losses permanently.
