Position Overview

We are in search of an Electronics Product (Manufacturing) Engineer who possesses substantial experience in a manufacturing setting. The selected Product Engineer will play a crucial role in assessing designs for manufacturability and spearheading the transition of new products into production. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in user requirement analysis, mechanical design, tooling design, and manufacturing cell layout.

Key Responsibilities:

This role will report directly to the Product Engineering Lead and will serve as the technical authority on both internal and external projects, overseeing all technical and scheduling aspects throughout the product's production lifecycle. The primary responsibilities include:

  • Creation and upkeep of manufacturing documentation, which encompasses manufacturing instructions, routings, process specifications, and tooling, alongside product testing requirements and methodologies.
  • Ensuring a seamless transition from proposals to production by acting as the primary technical liaison between clients and Ensign-Bickford Industries.
  • Addressing manufacturing challenges, probing process failures, and executing corrective measures.
  • Collaborating with various departments to guarantee the production feasibility of new designs, generating necessary documentation, and securing both internal and customer approvals.
  • Engaging with production staff, including operators, quality inspectors, and shop floor supervisors.
  • Implementing Lean methodologies such as standard work, point-of-use tooling, material presentation, and process enhancements.
  • Designing automated test fixtures and assembly tools.
  • Developing layouts for manufacturing cell design, which includes tooling, machinery, and equipment.
  • Conducting Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Ensuring technical compliance and performing risk assessments.
  • Creating standard work procedures and contributing to manufacturing cell planning.
  • Monitoring progress and ensuring the completion of operational milestones and tasks for production programs.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should hold a BS/MS in an engineering discipline, with a preference for 3-5 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering, particularly with multi-part mechanisms and mechanical assemblies. Additionally, familiarity with the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Understanding of space vehicle mechanisms and systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD, 3-D modeling, assembly creation, drawings, and GD&T.
  • Experience in tooling and fixture design.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing methods and techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities, with a proven track record of leading programs/projects.
  • Formal problem analysis and resolution skills.
  • Project management abilities, including documentation, planning, and execution of programs.
  • Experience with aerospace products and processes.
  • Commitment to Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing practices.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise/Manufacturing Resource Planning (ERP/MRP) systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and familiarity with MS Project.
