Job Summary:

The Information Technology Services Division at Penn State University is seeking a highly skilled Network Systems Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-level network administration, development, and design assistance within our Special Project area. This role will also support additional enterprise network areas as needed to ensure our enablement of key research and administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administration, ensuring operations, and secure configuration of our network infrastructure
  • Respond and remediate system and network security vulnerabilities
  • Implement, test, and support new and emerging technologies while applying security best practices and required compliance measures
  • Analyzing network traffic and diagnosing/correcting network and performance issues
  • Conduct risk assessments to determine residual level of risk and any required mitigations
  • Participate in the implementation of required policies, procedures, and configurations; make recommendations for improvements
  • Oversight of the installation and configuration of networks, and secure enclaves, to comply with Government and Federal regulations
  • Assisting in the development and acquisition of network management tools

Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher, plus 4 years' related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • The ability to certify and maintain information security related certification (Security+, CASP+, CySA+)
  • Knowledge in NIST/ISO standards, DoD directives, and regulatory requirements
  • Network integration in a heterogeneous environment
  • Operating and providing network administration and support in a high-security research computing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A current, fully adjudicated TOP SECRET (Tier 5) clearance, and counterintelligence polygraph
  • Enterprise WAN/LAN switching and routing
  • Next generation layer 7 firewalls (Palo Alto)
  • Maintenance of secure Windows and Linux servers
  • Knowledge within the development and deployment of secure enclaves and VLANs
  • Skillset to include management of other network supporting services within a secure environment (IPAM/NAC/DNS/DHCP)
  • Possess excellent communication skills. Highly motivated and ability to work independently to plan, identify problems, and produce results

Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA.

Pay Range:

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is: $68, $102,300.00
