Role Overview
The Credit Officer position at SMBC involves delivering precise credit risk evaluations to support effective credit risk management practices. This includes responsibilities such as Credit Underwriting, Credit Monitoring, Portfolio Management, and compliance with audit standards. The role also encompasses the development of models and strategies for enhancing credit assessment processes.

Key Responsibilities
- **Strategic Management**: Oversee first-line credit risk management strategies, including origination, modification, and account management. Collaborate with teams to ensure a balanced approach to growth and asset quality.
- **Leadership**: Foster a strong credit culture by mentoring team members and ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines. Maintain a thorough understanding of market conditions and borrower profiles.
- **Collaboration**: Work closely with various departments to establish appropriate reserves and ensure timely credit approvals. Ensure that internal ratings and classifications are updated in response to credit events.
- **Risk Management**: Assess existing and prospective client relationships for credit quality. Implement systems and policies that align with business objectives and risk appetite.

Qualifications
- **Education**: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- **Experience**: A minimum of five years in commercial and leasing credit analysis and underwriting.
- **Skills**: Proficient in financial analysis, with strong organizational and communication abilities. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and experience with Salesforce and Aspire systems are preferred.
