Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Nutrition Education Coordinator to join our team at Durham County Government. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and providing nutrition education to adolescents, improving nutrition environments, and conducting related work as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and provide community group nutrition education to middle school-age children, targeting a culturally diverse population through classroom lessons, hands-on culinary-based after-school programs, health fairs, taste tests, and school-wide promotions.
  • Develop and conduct ongoing program needs assessment and outcome evaluation.
  • Distribute nutrition education to target audience through written materials such as newsletters, website postings, and bulletin boards in addition to lessons taught in the classroom and in the community.
  • As needed, adapt nutrition education to be delivered virtually, and teach nutrition lessons via an online platform for middle school students.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of nutrition and public health.
  • Understanding of how to assess community needs and assets and to plan programs based on that assessment.
  • Thorough knowledge of human behavior and techniques for effecting behavior change.
  • Computer literacy skills.
  • Understanding of curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Excellent customer service skills and attitude.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in dietetics or foods and nutrition and one year of nutrition/dietitian work experience.

Registered Dietitian (RD or RDN) by the ADA Commission on Dietetic Registration and Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition.
