GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Medical Scribe plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and productivity of healthcare providers by performing various clerical and information technology tasks during patient visits. This position is primarily responsible for managing electronic health records.

SUPERVISION:

This role reports directly to the office manager and/or physician, with no supervisory responsibilities over other staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Documentation: Accurately record medical visits and procedures in real-time, including:
  • Patient medical history and physical examinations,
  • Procedures and treatments conducted by healthcare professionals,
  • Patient education and discussions regarding risks and benefits,
  • Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions, and instructions for patients and their families,
  • Preparation of referral letters as instructed by the physician.
Clerical Support: Manage dictation, faxing, phone communications, and other clerical tasks. Ensure timely preparation and dispatch of referral letters and relevant reports to all involved healthcare providers.Quality Assurance: Identify and rectify errors or inconsistencies in medical documentation, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards for medical records.Editing: Proofread and edit all medical documents for accuracy, ensuring high standards of spelling, punctuation, and grammar.EXPERIENCE:

Prior experience in a medical office setting is required, with a preference for candidates familiar with electronic medical records (EMR).

SKILLS REQUIRED:
  1. Language Proficiency: Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence, with strong typing skills and a command of English composition.
  2. Medical Knowledge: Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, diagnostic procedures, and treatment protocols.
  3. Mathematical Skills: Competence in basic arithmetic and the ability to interpret data.
  4. Reasoning Ability: Capability to follow instructions and apply logic to problem-solving.
  5. Computer Skills: Proficiency in using electronic medical record software and data entry.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The Medical Scribe position requires regular standing, sitting, and walking, as well as the ability to lift and move items up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
