The Town of Burlington is in search of a skilled professional to undertake advanced maintenance and repair tasks on both heavy and light municipal vehicles and machinery, under the supervision of the Superintendent of the Central Maintenance Division.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct mechanical and electrical repairs and maintenance; diagnose issues in gasoline and diesel internal combustion engine-powered electrical systems, and execute the removal and replacement of clutches and transmissions.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance tasks such as lubrication, oil filter replacements, wheel alignments, and brake and clutch adjustments.
  • Provide emergency repair services in the field and respond to related urgent situations.
  • Dismantle and reassemble diesel and gasoline engines, replace defective components, grind valves, and perform comprehensive engine overhauls.
  • Execute auto body repairs along with associated welding and fabrication tasks.
  • Utilize a work order system and other electronic tools to fulfill daily responsibilities.
  • Inspect vehicles and issue inspection stickers as required.
  • Assist in snow removal operations and be available for emergency recall when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A valid CDL Class B License is required.
  • A Hoisting License 2A, 4E & 4G is necessary.
    • Candidates lacking the required CDL and Hoisting Licenses may be considered under specific conditions.
  • Proven experience and knowledge of the principles, procedures, methods, and techniques involved in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, generators, and other equipment.
  • Strong mechanical skills to diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of motorized equipment.
  • Availability for emergency snow removal operations is essential.
This is a full-time union role, requiring 40 hours per week, within the Department of Public Works bargaining unit. The salary is aligned with Group 86 of the DPW contract.

The pay scale begins at $29.12/hr, with annual salary increments reaching a maximum of $40.63/hr, and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
