Strategic Engineering Operations Director

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Business Operations Director to join our team at DocuSign. This pivotal role combines strategic leadership with hands-on analytical expertise, supporting the Product and Technology organization to enhance financial planning, operational excellence, and data-driven decision-making.
About the Role:This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Director of Engineering Business Services. The successful candidate will manage engineering budgeting processes, optimize cost management systems, and provide actionable insights to senior stakeholders while mentoring a small team of strategic sourcing managers.
- Lead Budget Development: Develop and manage the engineering annual operating budget and multi-year financial plans, aligning divisional budgets with organizational priorities and strategic goals.
- Analyze Financial Data: Provide detailed explanations of budget variances and trends, highlighting risks, opportunities, and actionable insights to inform strategic decisions.
- Create Dashboards: Design, develop, and maintain advanced dashboards and reports to track financial and operational metrics across engineering functions, enabling data-driven decision-making.
- Present Insights: Summarize complex analytical findings into visually compelling presentations for senior leadership, communicating key takeaways and recommendations.
- Cost Optimization: Monitor trends to identify areas for cost optimization and resource allocation improvements, driving efficiency and effectiveness in engineering operations.
- Process Enhancement: Enhance financial and budgeting systems to improve accuracy, efficiency, and transparency, ensuring seamless integration with existing processes.
- Training and Mentorship: Provide training to engineering teams on budgeting systems and tools, promoting best practices and standardization.
We are looking for a seasoned professional with a strong background in financial planning, budgeting, and analysis, preferably in an engineering or technology-driven organization. Ideal candidates will possess excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 12+ years of experience in financial planning, budgeting, or related roles, with a focus on engineering or technology-driven organizations.
- Experience in cost analysis optimization, financial modeling, and strategic budget planning.
- Proficiency in Excel, including complex formulas (e.g., Power Query, Power Pivot, XLOOKUP).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
