Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician will be responsible for ensuring the proper decontamination, cleaning, inspection, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and equipment. This role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean, decontaminate, assemble, and sterilize all instrumentation and equipment according to established procedures and regulations.
  • Operate sterilization and decontamination equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect and assemble surgical instrumentation and equipment according to departmental policy and procedure.
  • Monitor and report biological indicators and quality assurance verifications for patient safety.
  • Restock case carts, supply carts, and emergency carts with accurate and unexpired products, instrumentation, and equipment.
  • Deliver case carts, stocking carts, and equipment to correct Perioperative locations.
  • Inventory and maintain adequate levels of instrumentation, equipment, and sterile supplies.
  • Report and record missing and/or damaged instrumentation/equipment, and malfunctioning Sterile Processing Department (SPD) decontamination/sterilization equipment.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to inquiries from customers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean, neat, and orderly fashion.
  • Participate in cross-training for new surgical instrumentation and equipment.
  • Support current or other SPD sites as requested by department supervisor or manager.
  • Promote effective and collaborative working relationships with members of the Perioperative team and other customers.
  • Actively participate in department Lean/Performance Improvement/Quality initiatives and programs.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Within 18 months of hire, must hold a certification from one of the following accredited bodies: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Board Sterile Processing & Distribution Tech (CSPDT).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous background in healthcare services (Procedural or Surgical Services experience).
  • Surgical Technologist (ST) and/or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
  • One year Surgical instrument processing / reprocessing and medical inventory experience.
  • One year of Sterile Processing experience.
  • One year Patient Care equipment experience.
