About Nexamp
Nexamp is a leading clean energy company dedicated to building a sustainable future for all. Our mission is to create a world where energy is clean, simple, and accessible. We believe in the power of diversity and inclusion to drive innovation and growth. At Nexamp, we're passionate about reducing our carbon footprint and creating a better tomorrow for future generations.
Job Description
We're seeking a highly skilled Solar Energy Lawyer for Real Estate Development to join our team. As a key member of our Legal department, you will provide expert legal support for Nexamp's business development function, with a strong focus on distributed-generation development issues. You will be responsible for managing outside counsel and driving internal processes surrounding the acquisition, development, construction, and operation of solar and storage projects.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for real estate and title policy acquisition for the development and construction of solar and storage projects, ensuring projects are financeable with third-party debt and equity providers from a site control perspective. This includes analyzing title commitments to identify exceptions or defects that require curative action, reviewing title proformas and policies to ensure any defects or exceptions have been resolved to financing requirements, and reviewing ALTA surveys for project boundaries, legal descriptions, survey notes, certifications, and any encroachments, defects, or conflicts that require curative action.
- Additional duties include reviewing and negotiating letters of intent, term sheets, requests for proposals, leases, options to lease, purchase and sale agreements, land acquisitions, access and utility easements, non-disturbance agreements, permits, and agreements required to cure title and survey issues, and development phase contracts such as consulting and services agreements, PILOT agreements, estoppels, amendments, and non-disclosure agreements for both projects in development and operation. This includes identifying and mitigating risks associated with the financeability of development phase contracts.
- Contributes to the development and improvement of contract templates and internal deal processes.
- Role can be expanded to include management of additional legal areas.
Requirements
- Law degree from an accredited law school.
- At least 3 years of legal experience required, preferably in a law firm setting. Strong experience in real estate and commercial land development issues is required.
- Specific experience in renewable energy projects is preferred, but candidates with strong backgrounds in finance, construction, energy, or commercial development are also encouraged to apply.
- Ability to work in a highly team-oriented environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously with little supervision to support various business units within the organization.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Commitment to Nexamp's mission and have a passion for solving tomorrow's climate crisis today.
- Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond your organization.
- Experience in showcasing initiative to make improvements to current work, processes, products, and services across the organization. We value accountability and an ownership mentality.
- Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify the root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
- Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.
- Eagerness to develop a fundamental understanding of how Nexamp operates and then apply that knowledge effectively to inform business decisions.
What We Offer
Nexamp is committed to providing a competitive compensation package, including a salary of $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience. We also offer a 401(k) employer-match, health, dental, and vision insurance starting day one, flexible paid time off and holiday PTO, commuter benefits, cell phone reimbursement, and a hybrid work environment. We have headquarters in Boston, MA and Chicago, IL, in addition to growing offices nationwide. We provide healthy snacks, coffee, service days, and other volunteer opportunities, company outings, and more.
How to Apply
If you're passionate about clean energy and have the skills and experience to excel in this role, please submit your application. We encourage people from minority or marginalized groups to apply. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
