Job Summary

IEA Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives is seeking a highly skilled Survey Technician III to join our team. As a Survey Technician III, you will be responsible for collecting and analyzing geospatial data to support construction projects. This role requires a strong understanding of surveying principles, geospatial technology, and construction layout.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze geospatial data using sophisticated surveying equipment and software.
  • Collaborate with project teams to understand construction sequences and integrate survey data into project plans.
  • Apply geospatial technology to set lath for construction, including center and offsets, and field-fit miscellaneous items.
  • Operate survey instruments to capture static measurements for various disciplines, with a focus on accuracy and precision.
  • Perform calculations to determine accurate elevations, distances, and angles for construction projects.
  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, and sketches.
  • Verify horizontal and vertical residuals daily using client-provided benchmarks.
  • Search for section corners, property states, and survey points.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot GPS equipment as directed by the Survey Equipment team.
  • Ensure equipment and tools are clean, properly powered down, and stored at the end of the business day.
  • Safely operate field tools and supplies to minimize the risk of injury and property damage.
  • Foster effective communication between surveying teams, engineering teams, and project management.
  • Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to integrate survey data into project plans.
  • Provide regular updates on surveying progress, challenges, and solutions to site and office management.
  • Work independently and as an active member of the team.
  • Mentor and serve as the subject matter expert for Survey Technician I & IIs.
Requirements
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in surveying, remote sensing, drafting, engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Three to four years of survey experience in construction or operations, with exposure to engineering, civil, or renewable energy activities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy and well-developed file management skills.
  • Advanced comprehension of ALTA Surveys and various schematics.
  • Proficient knowledge of surveying software, such as Trimble Business Center, MAGNET Office, or Civil 3D.
  • Ability to problem-solve and work within precise standards of accuracy.
  • Ability to mentor and influence other survey team members.
  • Knowledge of all survey disciplines.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze schematics.
  • Basic electrical knowledge.
