Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Locomotive Repair Specialist to join our team at Watco Corp. As a key member of our locomotive maintenance team, you will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining diesel locomotives to ensure they are safe and operational.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and comply with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a respectful and productive work environment.
  • Develop and sustain an environment where obstacles to success are communicated to all affected parties.
  • Ensure clear communication between all parties.
  • Continuously search for safe and productive ways to perform tasks.
  • Comply with confidentiality policies and regulations.
  • Coordinate locomotive mechanical department functions with other departments.
  • Comply with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and guidelines.
  • Provide excellent customer service and work with customers to meet company goals.
  • Work with connecting railroads to ensure efficient interchange of cars and locomotives.
  • Perform air tests, inspect, and repair locomotives or components for structural defects and wear.
  • Comply with all rules, regulations, and programs, including drug and alcohol policies.
  • Be proficient in interchange rules and regulations.
  • Possess working knowledge of wear limit gauges and testing equipment.
  • Complete written forms and reports, including Federal Railroad Administration reports.
  • Obtain qualified locomotive inspector certification according to FRA regulations.
  • Familiarize yourself with state and federal regulations related to the railroad industry.
  • Perform emergency repairs and re-railing of railroad rolling stock.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Develop skills of subordinate employees to ensure highly qualified successors.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completed three-year Railroad Apprenticeship or four years of railroad-related experience or five years of experience in a mechanical field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license and insurability by company insurance provider.
  • Ability to become a qualified Service Engineer according to Federal Railroad Administration regulations.
