Job Overview:

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Service Coordinator collaborates with program staff to ensure a secure and inviting atmosphere for residents in transitional housing. Responsibilities include managing supply inventories, supervising meal services, maintaining cleanliness, preparing accommodations for incoming residents, and organizing belongings left by departing residents. The ideal candidate will possess a friendly demeanor and the ability to work cooperatively across various departments. This role requires an energetic, resourceful, and dependable individual with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to serving vulnerable populations. The candidate should demonstrate a capacity to foster an organized, safe, and efficient working environment while making decisions that prioritize the well-being of all residents. Quick thinking and responsiveness to urgent situations are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage inventory of food, clothing, and hygiene supplies, including ordering as necessary.
  • Oversee meal service operations for residents in the communal dining area.
  • Conduct monthly safety inspections, including fire extinguisher checks, in collaboration with the Operations Manager.
  • Distribute supplies to shelter residents in accordance with established standards and schedules.
  • Assist new residents with orientation and facility tours upon intake.
  • Ensure that bed spaces are kept in a sanitary and safe condition by residents.
  • Handle items left by residents transitioning out of the program according to shelter policies.
  • Provide transportation for residents to appointments as required.
  • Monitor and address hazardous conditions through cleaning and sanitization efforts.
  • Coordinate incident responses with staff and security as needed.
  • Support residents in their transition to permanent housing when necessary.
  • Ensure all residents are accounted for during bed checks and report any discrepancies to day staff.
  • Enhance volunteer experiences by providing guidance, inclusivity, and support.
  • Express appreciation for volunteer contributions.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and agency events as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Shelter Management.
  • Actively contribute to and exemplify SVdP's Culture of Philanthropy, ensuring volunteers feel valued and welcomed.


Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Level One Fingerprint Clearance or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to engage effectively with residents, staff, and volunteers.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, volunteers, and staff in a temporary shelter setting is preferred.
  • A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record are preferred.
Education and Experience:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in social services or a related field is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to read, comprehend, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
