Job Overview

UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine stands as the foremost Orthopaedic practice in Western New York. We are seeking dedicated Physical Therapy Assistants for both full-time and part-time roles across our various rehabilitation facilities.

Position Summary

The Physical Therapist Assistant, operating under the direct oversight of a licensed Physical Therapist, will engage in an outpatient orthopaedic environment, focusing on the treatment of diverse orthopaedic ailments, including both pre-operative and post-operative care. This role involves close collaboration with Orthopaedic Surgeons, Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective injury management, rehabilitation, and a successful return to optimal function for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Thoroughly review all physical therapy documentation, including initial assessments and care plans.
  • Monitor and document changes in patient medical status during each visit.
  • Identify when specific interventions exceed the scope of practice for the PTA.
  • Communicate significant changes in patient conditions to the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Articulate the rationale behind selected interventions to meet patient goals as outlined in the care plan.
  • Deliver interventions in accordance with federal and state regulations, APTA standards, and facility protocols.
  • Ensure the safety of both patients and self throughout the treatment process.
  • Maintain patient privacy and dignity, adhering to HIPAA regulations regarding protected health information.
  • Provide competent physical therapy interventions, including therapeutic exercises, balance training, and functional rehabilitation.
  • Document patient care accurately and in a timely manner, complying with institutional and legal standards.
  • Follow all safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Exhibit the following behavioral expectations: Accountability, Compassion, Cultural Competence, Integrity, and Social Responsibility.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.
QualificationsEducation

A High School diploma or equivalent is required, along with successful completion of a New York State or APTA accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program. Candidates must possess New York State licensure upon hire.

Experience

Experience in sports medicine and/or a background in an outpatient orthopaedic setting is preferred.

Skills

Strong communication and customer service skills are essential. Candidates should be capable of multitasking and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Physical Requirements

Ability to remain standing and active for 75% of the workday. Candidates must assist patients with mobility and navigate the clinical environment as needed.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in a clinical setting with moderate noise levels.
