Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored Vision Rehabilitation Therapy sessions to clients of all ages, focusing on enhancing their safety, functionality, and independence.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to prioritize client needs and establish achievable goals.
  • Ensure timely scheduling of assessments and follow-up visits.
  • Review client data from relevant databases to inform therapy sessions.
  • Document client progress and outcomes, adhering to established reporting guidelines.
  • Develop lesson plans and conduct regular sessions to meet client objectives.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records for all assigned clients in compliance with guidelines.
  • Order and provide training on adaptive equipment as necessary, ensuring proper authorization is obtained.
  • Comply with all contractual obligations set forth by relevant agencies.
  • Create and implement educational programs for youth during summer sessions.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including conferences and training sessions.
  • Maintain certification through continuing education units (CEUs).
  • Act as a Mandatory Reporter when required and complete necessary training.
  • Facilitate training sessions as directed by management.
  • Stay informed about advancements in adaptive technology and equipment.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative programs or projects as assigned.
  • Assist in training new staff and provide in-service education as needed.
  • Support and supervise VRT student interns.
  • Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and assistive technology.
  • Demonstrate adaptability, patience, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Exhibit strong counseling skills while balancing agency policies with client needs.
  • Possess a valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation for effective travel within the service area.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a rehabilitation teaching program accredited by the New York State Commission for the Blind (NYSCB) or a Bachelor’s Degree with completion of an NYSCB-approved certificate program.
  • ACVREP certification or eligibility to sit for the certification exam.
  • Experience with Grade I and Grade II Braille is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 15 pounds or more regularly.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks such as stooping, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Willingness to engage in outdoor activities for a minimum of one hour at a time.
  • Regularly perform repetitive motions with hands and fingers.
