Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled economist to join our team as a Caseload Forecaster. In this role, you will be responsible for investigating and charting the intersection between public policy and demand for services, as well as the impact of economic and public policy decisions that affect Oregonians.

As a Caseload Forecaster, you will need to have a background in econometrics or other statistics for the social sciences that can be applied to the development of projections of statewide caseloads for human services. Areas of emphasis include Medicaid, disability care, and social supports like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance of Needy Families (TANF).

You will need to demonstrate a proven track record of developing and modifying statistical models from real-world, imperfect data. Our team is tasked with building evidence-based budgets for the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) and the Oregon Health Authority (OHA).

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and modify statistical models to project statewide caseloads for human services
  • Analyze the impact of economic and public policy decisions on demand for services
  • Collaborate with data warehouse programmers and analysts to integrate data across multiple programs and agencies
  • Provide evidence-based budget recommendations to ODHS and OHA
Requirements:
  • Masters degree in economics or related field and three to five years experience in economic research or econometric forecasting
  • PhD in economics or related field and one year experience in economic research
  • Special consideration will be given to applicants with a background in analysis of state-based administrative data or experience with human services
