Early Childhood Educator I

The Early Childhood Educator I plays a vital role in supporting the Early Childhood Educator II in overseeing the daily operations of infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms. This position involves assisting in the planning and implementation of curriculum that fosters the advancement of children's physical, intellectual, and social/emotional development.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the planning and implementation of curriculum that encourages the advancement of children's physical, intellectual, and social/emotional development.
- Develop and implement activities that promote good health habits and integrate health and nutrition components into the classroom.
- Provide a classroom program that builds and strengthens positive help concepts and individual strengths of children.
- Establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
- Assist the Early Childhood Educator II in daily lesson planning and maintaining documentation for compliance with center policies and procedures.
- Adhere to state and local health and safety policies and procedures.
- Prepare and serve daily meals while maintaining sanitation rules and regulations and Child and Adult Food Care Program requirements.
- Supervise, guide, and interact with children indoors and outdoors.
- Nurture children's social and emotional development, demonstrating affection and emotional support.
- Adhere to adult/child ratios as required by state regulations and national accreditation guidelines.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with children, families, staff, and students.
- Assist with the observation and documentation of children's development and provide feedback to the Early Childhood Educator II for the creation of individual goals.
- Work cooperatively with support staff in the provision of direct services and the development of goals for children with disabilities.
- Oversee maintenance, upkeep, and inventory of classroom supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Adhere to the College's rules and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of program staff and child information.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings to increase professional knowledge, skills, and competencies, as assigned.
- Maintain familiarity with child care licensing center-based regulations, state, and national accreditation guidelines.
- Manage the classroom program in the Early Childhood Educator II's absence.
- Assist the Early Childhood Educator II in mentoring and overseeing field study students from the Child Development and Early Childhood programs, work-study students, and part-time employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of a college certificate or 21 college credit hours and two years' experience in a child care center environment.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
- Ability to use the team approach to resolve problems and conflicts.
- Ability to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common regulatory specifications and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from parents/guardians, management, staff, regulatory agencies, public groups, or members of the business community.
- Ability to apply practical understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to an outdoor environment daily; frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule; and may be exposed to infectious diseases.
