Patient Care Assistant Trainee

Role Summary
The Patient Care Assistant Trainee is tasked with delivering routine daily nursing support to designated patients under the close supervision of a licensed nurse. This role is crucial in ensuring patient safety and promoting the highest possible physical, mental, and emotional well-being of each individual, in alignment with all relevant laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Currently enrolled in a State-approved CNA program, eligible to work for a single uninterrupted period of four (4) months. Upon completion of this period, the Trainee must fulfill the certification requirements to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- CPR certification required upon hire or to be obtained during orientation, with a mandate to keep certification current throughout employment
Key Job Expectations
- Exhibit patience, tact, a cheerful demeanor, and enthusiasm, along with a readiness to manage challenging patients
- Make independent decisions when necessary
- Possess knowledge of nursing practices and procedures, as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing functions in a post-acute care environment
- Implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the nursing department
- Demonstrate proficiency in all competency areas, including but not limited to: patient rights, safety, and sanitation
- Maintain professional relationships with all colleagues, vendors, etc.
- Uphold confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Understand and adhere to company policies, including those related to harassment and compliance
- Exhibit integrity and professionalism by following Life Care's Code of Conduct and completing mandatory compliance training
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist in lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse
- Support patients with bathing, personal grooming, feeding, and toileting under the guidance of a licensed nurse
- Accurately document and chart patient care activities
- Respond promptly to call lights
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude towards patients
- Assist in the safe evacuation of patients
- Demonstrate reliable and regular attendance
- Utilize reasoning skills and sound judgment
- Communicate effectively and collaborate productively within an interdisciplinary team
- Engage in physical activities such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, walking, reaching, and moving intermittently during working hours
- Read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language
- Lift and carry weights of up to 35 lbs. and perform related physical tasks
