Autopsy Tech Job Description

The University of New Mexico is seeking a highly skilled Autopsy Tech to join our team in the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI). As a nationally accredited program, we investigate sudden, violent, untimely, or unexpected deaths across the state of New Mexico.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist pathologists with collection of evidence and examinations of decedents.
  • Work in a lab setting, following protocols for sanitation, infection control, and safety.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with a team of professionals to determine cause and manner of death.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of autopsy procedures and methodologies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of legal and policy requirements related to evidence gathering and documentation.
  • Experience with autopsy chemicals, instruments, facilities, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of inventory management practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
