Job Summary

The Department of Pathology at the University of New Mexico is seeking two (2) forensic pathologist assistants to join our team as Lecturers. These individuals will perform medicolegal and hospital autopsies, teach medical students, pathology residents, and forensic pathology fellows, supervise autopsy technicians, and oversee the autopsy suite operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform medicolegal and hospital autopsies
  • Teach medical students, pathology residents, and forensic pathology fellows
  • Supervise autopsy technicians
  • Oversee the autopsy suite operations
  • Identify problem areas and recommend changes to workflow
Requirements
  • Master's degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program; or Bachelor's degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program and 3 years of directly-related experience
  • Must be ASCP-PA certified or eligible for certification within 1 year of employment
  • Eligible to work in the US
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise and/or training as a Pathologists' Assistant
  • Previous experience working at an academic institution
  • Previous experience teaching residents
  • Previous experience supervising staff
  • Previous experience overseeing autopsy suite
  • Knowledge of all federal and state laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards pertaining to the conduct of forensic/medical investigations
