About the Role

Ambry Genetics is seeking an experienced Automation Technologist II to join our team in Aliso Viejo, CA. As an Automation Technologist II, you will play a key role in assisting the Automation Team in assay automation development and supporting the Clinical Laboratory with instrumentation and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop automated diagnostic and genomic assays for use in a CLIA/CAP regulated setting
  • Provide on-site laboratory instrumentation and troubleshooting support to the Clinical Department
  • Assist with training of manual and automated protocols directly with the Clinical Department, Validation Team, and Automation Team
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams such as IT, Clinical, and Validations
  • Participate in drafting Standard Operating Procedures for new assays and updating existing Standard Operating Procedures as needed
  • Ensure Quality Control requirements are met for instrumentation
  • Perform general tasks that may include assistance in development, validation, and troubleshooting of reagent plating, DNA isolation and purification, PCR, electrophoresis, gel photography and analysis, Next-Generation sequencing library preparation, Sanger Sequencing, aCGH microarrays, and Sequencing analysis
  • Maintain a professional attitude towards co-workers, instrument vendors, and support specialists
  • Understand and adhere to safety guidelines
  • Position requires sitting, bending, standing, and walking the entire workday
Requirements
  • REQUIRED: Experience with Tecan Evoware Standard Software or Tecan Fluent Control
  • 2+ years of laboratory research experience in an academic or industrial setting
  • BS and/or MS degree in a life sciences field: Biology, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of molecular and cellular biology
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Programming knowledge in languages such as Python, MATLAB, or VBScript is a plus
  • Understanding of Laboratory Automation, Sanger Sequencing, Next-Generation Sequencing, and Microarrays preferred
