Laser Communications Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Laser Communications Engineer to join our team at The Aerospace Corporation. As a key member of our Optical Communications Department, you will be responsible for conducting specialized satellite laser communications studies and providing technical advice to management, customers, and associate contractors.
Key Responsibilities:- Conducting in-depth analyses of laser communications systems and reporting findings to internal and external customers
- Providing technical expertise to management, customers, and contractors across the entirety of space systems lifecycles
- Developing advanced analytical techniques and design criteria for lasercom subsystems
- Leading lasercom system validation and verification activities, including modeling & simulation and testing
- Engaging with stakeholders to inform management of technical problems and recommending courses of action for mission success
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optical Sciences, or a related technical field from an accredited university
- Eight or more years of related experience in roles of increasing responsibility in engineering/scientific areas related to optical communications, satellites, and/or space systems engineering
- Experience with laser transmitters and technologies
- Capability with optical detectors and technologies
- Demonstrated ability to lead lasercom trade studies
- Experience working with communications link and pointing error budgets
- Proven ability to manage or support photonic or optical testing activities
- Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optical Sciences, or a related technical field from an accredited university
- Systems engineering experience in satellite communications or optical systems
- Experience developing laser or electro-optical pointing, acquisition, and tracking requirements
- Development of laser system end-to-end requirements and designs
- Proficiency with optical communication system requirements definition, validation, and verification
We offer a competitive compensation package, including a grade-based pay range of $129,000 - $193,500 per year.
