The Communication Technologies and Engineering Division (CTED) encompasses the fields of communications, networking, and Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) in support of space missions, alongside their enabling technologies. Within CTED, projects span all phases, from architectural design to prototype development and implementation, blending theoretical knowledge with practical application. Our engineers collaborate directly with corporate and U.S. Government clients to ensure the delivery of robust and resilient communication solutions.

Within CTED, the Communication Systems Engineering Department (CSED) engages in analysis, modeling, simulation, and laboratory work to design and assess communication systems, signals, and signal processing algorithms for our clientele. As an engineer in CSED, you will tackle demanding technical challenges in communication, counter-communication, and related digital signal processing domains. Your expertise will contribute to various U.S. Government military and national program requirements, influencing their future trajectories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently manage and/or spearhead projects that involve:
    • Physical layer modeling and simulation
    • Design and performance analysis of communication waveforms
    • Analysis and design of position, navigation, and timing signals
    • Communication link budget assessments
    • Evaluation of existing and prospective programs in diverse technical fields, including satellite communications, signal intelligence (SIGINT), and electronic warfare (EW)
    • Development and assessment of program requirements, interfaces, and verification methodologies
    • Creation of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms
  • Deliver actionable technical solutions to complex national challenges
  • Transform abstract concepts into concrete, well-structured technical plans
  • Effectively communicate technical findings through comprehensive reports and presentations.

Work Model: This position necessitates a minimum of four days on-site.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related technical field
  • Eight or more years of relevant engineering experience with progressive responsibility
  • Experience with RF satellite communication systems, including hardware and software, systems engineering, RF system design requirements development, integration and testing, or related fields
  • Familiarity with various communication systems and digital signal processing principles (e.g., modulation, coding, synchronization, estimation, detection theory, waveform design, channel effects, and link performance)
  • Proficiency in one of the following programming languages: MATLAB, Python, C/C++
  • A current and active TS/SCI security clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is required
  • This role typically requires 10% domestic travel, with potential increases (up to 35%) to meet specific customer needs.

In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the Senior Engineering Specialist include:

  • Twelve or more years of relevant experience in communications systems engineering and/or signal processing
  • Demonstrated experience in technical leadership roles

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous if you possess one or more of the following:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Experience with military and commercial satellite communication systems
  • Working knowledge of U.S. government programs in protected communications, navigation, signal intelligence (SIGINT), and/or electronic warfare (EW)
  • Hands-on experience with modeling and simulation of anti-jam waveforms, spread spectrum, beamforming, array processing, interference mitigation, and geolocation techniques
  • Familiarity with modern software development practices and tools
  • In-depth understanding of emerging communication and network technologies (5G, 6G, IoT, IoST)
  • Current SAP access
