The Behavior Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the formulation, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of specific behavioral programs tailored for individuals with developmental disabilities. This position requires a positive, proactive, and innovative mindset towards behavior support, emphasizing skill enhancement, individual rights, and overall quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with the regulations and standards set forth by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities and Title XIX Medical Regulations regarding behavior, programming, individual rights, and behavioral medications.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in behavioral support programming for individuals with developmental disabilities and integrate new methodologies into daily practices and agency culture.
  • Assist and supervise direct care and professional staff in the execution and documentation of behavior programs, collaborating closely with the QIDP and Support Supervisor/Manager.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and oversight of designated behavior programs, identifying trends and inconsistencies, and implementing necessary adjustments.
  • Be prepared to fulfill all essential duties to ensure the complete and continuous execution of designated behavior plans.
  • Evaluate and analyze behaviors to devise plans, procedures, strategies, or supports.
  • Consult with other professionals (Counselors, Psychiatrists, Doctors, etc.) as necessary regarding an individual's needs, sharing relevant information, program progress, and suitable recommendations.
  • Compile monthly data on active behavior plans, reviewing the data collected and making appropriate modifications and suggestions.
  • Present findings to the Behavior Support Committee (BSC) regarding program progress and implement the BSC's recommendations promptly and professionally.
  • Monitor metrics to guarantee ongoing improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess one of the following:
    • A valid license from the Ohio Board of Psychology;
    • A valid license from the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board;
    • A valid physician license from the State Medical Board of Ohio; or
    • A bachelor's or graduate-level degree from an accredited institution, along with a minimum of three years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience in developing and/or implementing behavioral support and/or risk reduction strategies or plans.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to extract relevant information from verbal accounts (active listening) is required.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively, making sound decisions based on analysis, judgment, and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is necessary.
