UPMC is seeking a Casual Neurodiagnostic Specialist I or II to provide support across Central PA hospitals.

Successful candidates will be assigned to the appropriate title based on their qualifications and experience.

This is a dynamic and expanding team that promotes mentorship and professional development.

We are looking for a skilled Neurodiagnostic Specialist who can operate independently.

Availability for evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts is essential to meet operational needs.

Employees may work up to 16 hours per week and will be required to travel to all seven hospitals within the Central PA Region.

Key Responsibilities:
• Operate computer systems to capture nervous system responses, providing quantitative and objective assessments of neuronal and sensory functions.

• Collaborate with supervisors and medical staff to troubleshoot issues and provide guidance on laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment.

• Maintain and repair neurodiagnostic equipment to ensure optimal performance, addressing routine equipment issues as they arise.

• Gather relevant medical history from patients or their families.

• Respond effectively to medical emergencies to ensure patient safety, adhering to unit and hospital protocols for high-acuity patients.

• Monitor changes in patient clinical conditions and correlate these with EEG readings.

• Identify critical changes that necessitate intervention, such as seizures or cardiac irregularities.

• Schedule patients for neurodiagnostic tests, ensuring all necessary medical information is obtained; explain procedures clearly to alleviate concerns and encourage cooperation.

• Prepare patients for testing by measuring and marking the cranial area and attaching electrodes to designated positions on the scalp and body.

• Conduct procedures with thorough documentation.

• Recognize EEG waveforms and patterns during testing and communicate findings to medical personnel.

Qualifications:
• High School diploma with 6 months of patient care experience
• OR an Associate's degree
• OR a Bachelor's degree

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
• CPR certification required based on AHA standards, including both a theoretical and practical skills assessment within 30 days of hire.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

• Act 33 with renewal

• Act 34 with renewal

• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
