The Albany County Public Defender is seeking a highly skilled and experienced attorney to serve as its Family Court Supervisor. This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated professional to lead a team of attorneys and support staff in providing top-notch legal representation to parents and caretakers in Family Court.
Key Responsibilities:- Supervise and support a team of Assistant Public Defenders and support staff in Albany County Family Court.
- Represent Public Defender clients in Family Court and Integrated Domestic Violence Court, mentoring and supervising staff in the process.
- Collaborate with other Public Defender Supervisory staff to develop and implement Office policies, goals, and procedures.
- Assign case files to staff on an equitable basis and ensure family court office matters are handled efficiently.
- Delegate court assignments and other duties to staff, monitor and manage staff workloads, and review requests for time off.
- Thorough knowledge of the Family Court Act and experience in litigation, legal principles, terminology, and procedures.
- Demonstrated commitment to criminal justice, family court matters, indigent defense, social justice issues, and/or the Albany County communities.
- High level of organizational and administrative skills to handle a challenging caseload.
- Excellent oral communication skills, ability to write persuasively, and strong computer skills.
- Ability to provide sound administrative direction and consultation to subordinates.
- Attorney with a New York State bar admission (or ability to waive into New York State from another jurisdiction).
- Five (5) years of experience in the practice of family court law.
- Supervisory experience.
- Competitive salary range: $108,327.00.
