Painter/Loader

We are seeking an experienced Painter/Loader to join our team at Shepard Steel, a leading structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication company in Connecticut. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for painting, loading, and unloading structural steel and miscellaneous metal components onto or from trucks using overhead cranes and/or forklifts.

• Read and interpret work lists, written instructions, and diagrams to perform tasks accurately.
• Prepare surfaces for painting by wire brushing and scraping as necessary.
• Apply paint or other finishes to steel using brushes, spray guns, or rollers as required.
• Operate hand and power tools common to the painting and loading trade.
• Set up and climb ladders and stairs to work on flatbed trailers.
• Mark or tag material with proper job numbers, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
• Operate overhead cranes, fork trucks, and other equipment to transport materials to and from the paint bay and transportation vehicles.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
• Physically capable of lifting/pushing/pulling 70 pounds unassisted.
• Physically capable of bending/twisting and standing for long periods.
• Able to work well with minimal supervision and with other co-workers.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and follow specified procedures.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and has a positive attitude.
