Locum Tenens Trauma Surgeon Role
  • Assignment Details:
    • The locum surgeon will be responsible for performing a variety of procedures, including endoscopies, management of gastrointestinal bleeds, and standard general surgery cases within a rural healthcare setting.
    • This facility operates at trauma level 3, requiring the surgeon to be adept at handling a wide range of cases, including urgent upper and lower endoscopies.
    • As the only trauma center in the vicinity, the hospital frequently addresses common trauma incidents such as motor vehicle accidents and stab wounds.
    • Pediatric surgical procedures, particularly urgent cases for patients aged 6 years and older, will be part of the responsibilities, with younger patients being referred to other facilities when necessary.
    • The surgeon will manage gastrointestinal bleeds independently, without additional GI support, and will be on-call via cellphone communication and trauma alerts.
  • Qualifications:
    • Board Certification in Trauma Surgery is a mandatory requirement.
    • An active medical license in Oregon is essential for this position.
    • A clean professional history with no pending malpractice claims is highly preferred, along with verification through the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB).
    • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification is also required.
  • Site Requirements:
    • The position necessitates 4 hours of unpaid training on the EPIC electronic medical record system, with an option to test out in 2 hours.
    • Overtime compensation is applicable after 40 hours of work, with the standard workweek spanning from Sunday to Saturday.
